Incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse or other urogynecological issues can interfere with your lifestyle and create embarrassing situations that you should not have to experience. Even so, most OB/GYN practices in Northern New Jersey will have to send you to an outside physician to address these issues, especially if you need procedures such as the vaginal sling. That means scheduling another appointment, filling out additional paper work and investing hours of your valuable time.
The Rubino OB/GYN Group offers a simpler solution.
Our staff includes Audrey Romero, M.D, a board-certified Urogynecologist who will help find a solution to your urinary discomfort. In addition to being board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, she has completed subspecialty fellowship training in Urogynecology at the prestigious Duke University Medical School, the birthplace of that specialty.
Thanks to her training, clinical experience and empathy with patients, women from neighboring states seek Dr. Romero’s care for urinary incontinence, pelvic floor problems and other issues. She is professional, exacting … a true expert in the field of Urogynecology.
Urodynamic Studies
If needed, Dr. Romero will perform urodynamic studies to identify the cause of your problem. These tests may include:
| • |
|
Uroflometry: A procedure that involves voiding into a special commode that measures the rate of urine flow as it leaves the body. |
| • |
|
Cystometrogram: This procedure tests the function of the bladder muscles. A small catheter is placed in the bladder through the urethra to measure bladder volume, sensations of the bladder and bladder control. |
| • |
|
Electromyography of the external urinary sphincter. If necessary, this procedure is performed to study certain neurological conditions and urinary flow problems. Two patch electrodes are placed on the external sphincter muscle that controls the flow of urine. |
Dr. Romero will also help you determine the best plan of care, whether that’s exercise, lifestyle changes, medications or the newest minimally invasive procedures.
Treatment options include the vaginal sling, which is used to treat severe stress incontinence. This painless outpatient procedure is performed though a small internal incision and does not require general anesthesia.
